dog love, child hate

There's this amazing phenomenon
ive noticed amongst Americans, first worlders and rich people
this idea of a "fur baby".
In a video titled, "loyal dog leads police to injured grandmother",
the grandma at the end claims she is the DOG's grandmother

i was absolutely dumbstruck by this exclamation
that one could be the familial relation of a domestic animal.

but when you think about it, it makes sense.
money conditions you to perceive the world in terms of
convenience. what is convenient is good. what is inconvenient, bad.
dogs, at least modern dogs, are products.
opposed to a human child, they are amicable, easy to maintain.
much easier health costs to manage, much easier time taking care.
they don't cry, hissy fit, you don't have to track all their interests.

child hate, on the other hand, seems to be very common.
Germany is notorious for having an anti-child culture.
of course it's because children are the opposite of convenience.
They are expensive, are difficult, emotionally taxing, sacrificial.
there is no guarantee of a return on investnment.

That's why you will often see certain types of 'dog lovers'
somehow equate a dog with a person.
I love animals a lot, i think we've done the natural environment
a lot of injustice, in a manner that deeply upsets me.

but that in no way ever equates a dog to a human.
there is simply no comparison. This equivalence is less about the
animal itself and more about the person that owns it.

A dog can fit into the consumerist capitalist ethos more neatly
than a child can. Thats why dogs are loved and children are hated.
because the dog is a more convenient Return-on-investment than a child.
